No treadmills, no dumbbells, no smoothie bar with a squat rack behind it. Newark Liberty doesn’t have a gym inside the terminals. What you can do instead depends almost entirely on the gap between your flights.
Got an Hour?
Stay put and stretch. Newark has added small private yoga pods you can book for a short session, basically a quiet box where nobody watches you attempt downward dog. There are meditation rooms too, including one just past security in Terminal A. And a few brisk laps of the concourse do count, we promise.
Got Two to Four Hours?
Still not quite enough to leave. If you’re on United out of Terminal C, the big United Club near gate C123 has private shower suites, and after a red-eye a hot shower might beat a workout anyway. Access depends on your ticket, status or membership, so check before you walk halfway across the terminal.
Got Five Hours or More?
Now we’re talking. The Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott sits right on airport property with a free shuttle from every terminal, and its fitness center runs around the clock. The hotel has offered day passes and day rates that include the gym, bookable through Marriott or apps like ResortPass, and other nearby airport hotels sell day rooms too. The catch is the trip back through security, and Newark lines have a mind of their own, so give yourself plenty of time.
On an international connection, make sure stepping outside won’t complicate the next leg before you go anywhere. And if your long wait is a delay rather than a planned layover, our team’s playbook for a flight delay at DEN works at pretty much any big airport. Heading to Israel through Newark? We also covered where to break up the trip.
